I won’t speak for you (though I think many – if not all – of you will agree) but the last 5 months have been a struggle for me. I’ve struggled with not seeing friends and family. I’ve struggled spending long periods of time on my own. And I’ve REALLY struggled being away from our Clubs and all of you…

With everything that’s going on in the world right now, I oftentimes find myself thinking that my struggles are less than. Less than yours. Less than theirs. Just less than. But that’s such a dangerous mindset to find yourself in.

What I’ve been trying to remind myself of is that my struggles aren’t less than, they’re just different. Not better. Not worse. Not easier. Not more challenging. Just different. And they’re mine. And how I deal with them is also unique to me.

Sometimes I struggle with my mental health, so I step away from social media and the news, put on my favourite playlist and get my workout in. Getting sweaty and the repetitiveness of a good workout can really help clear my mind.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I just take a few minutes to breathe and take a step back. Sometimes that means going for a walk. Sometimes it means getting up from the computer and spending a little extra time in the kitchen making a delicious dinner.

While COVID has been difficult to deal with on so many levels, uncovering new challenges and struggles at every single turn, it has allowed me to learn more about myself. I’ve learned I can overcome more than I thought I could. I’ve learned that things that used to frustrate me really aren’t so bad. And I’ve learned to stop invalidating the things that I find challenging and that I struggle with, simply because I don’t think they’re as worthy of concern when I compare them to things other people and communities are struggling with.

So, I think it’s time we all reshape how we contextualize our struggles. Your struggles are yours, and they’re valid. My struggles are mine, and even though they’re different, they’re valid too.

Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. If you’re like me, that may even mean you have to carve time out of your day to ensure you get the breaks you need. (I schedule blocks of time for workouts, reading, calling my friends and family…)

Be kind to yourself. You’re fighting a battle too. No matter what that battle looks like.

Spinach

It’s a challenge to find other plants that can compete with spinach in terms of the range of valuable vitamins and minerals they contain. For example, spinach is an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, and iron. It also serves as an excellent source of vitamins A, B6, C, niacin and folate.

And did you know that spinach has a very low amount of fat? Researchers have discovered that it contains lutein and other elements that protect against vision loss, as well as promote hair growth.  Another great benefit to having spinach in your diet is it helps to toughen the lining of the digestive tract and this reduces the risks of getting inflammations in this area.
